Ten fall vacation tips

Visit the installation by world-renowned artist Marinus Boezem. He brings the wind inside with an installation that softens the architecture of the church through undulating canvases. 

During the vacations, the linen, embroidered rug - part of Boezem's work - is completed by the volunteers. This shows the tower of the Great Church that was ultimately never completed. During the vacations, visit Thursday through Sunday, through Oct. 30.

Also on Sunday, October 15, the last Teylingen Bewoond will take place this year. You won't want to miss that one!

During this event you can experience the Ruïne van Teylingen again as it was originally. Especially for children, all kinds of educational activities will be organized, such as arrow and archery and a workshop sword fighting with knights.

In everyday life we do not dwell on the origin of the kilo or the meter. What exactly is calibration and what does Napoleon have to do with it? How is it that a kilo is the same all over the world? On the moon, is a kilo still a kilo?

Find out at the Libra Museum in Naarden. The museum is located in the former weigh house; a fourteenth-century building with an eventful history... The museum is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

This city tour cannot be missed while visiting the Naarden Fortress. During the vacations, you can go explore the fortress with a guide on October 15. Learn more about the Dutch Waterline and the history of this Unesco World Heritage Site.

You start at the Yellow Pilot and during the walk you will pass all the sights, both in the city and around it. The tour takes about 75 minutes, get tickets at the Yellow Pilot.

Visit the Oostkerk in Middelburg for the World Press Photo exhibition. Admire the finest photographs and images in this special monument. The annual exhibition presents the winners of the World Press Photo Contest 2023 and showcases the best photojournalism of the past year. The winners were chosen by a jury, which judged more than 60,448 photos.

You can still visit the exhibition through Oct. 23! Tickets available through the East Church.

During the autumn vacations you can attend the Owls Workshop at Castle Radboud. In the Middle Ages, every self-respecting castle had a falconer. Only a free man was allowed to keep birds of prey, so it was also a status symbol. During the workshop you will learn more about these special animals.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24 and Thursday, Oct. 26. Places are limited, so book your tickets quickly through Radboud Castle. 

Floor puzzles, calligraphy and monastic bricks: especially for Children's Month in October, the Monastery Museum in Aduard is organizing fun activities for children and school classes.

Also fun for the autumn vacations: a visit to the Sassenpoort. AIs a remnant of the medieval walls of Zwolle, the Sassenpoort from around 1409 is an impressive and historical highlight, which has been well preserved over the centuries. 

Discover the stories of how the gate used to serve as a defensive structure and the rich history of the city of Zwolle. During your tour you can also look inside this special monument!

Just put on your sporty clothes, because to reach the top of this tower you have to climb a whopping 217 steps. Don't worry, there are plenty of rest options and you can see all kinds of special exhibits on the way up!

Built in the years 1467-1512, this Gothic tower was long used as a beacon for mariners. First with stoked fire, later with lighthouse light. Find more information through the Tower Museum, located in the building.
