Fancy going out during your holiday? We recommend five routes that will take you past special places.
From Zeeland to Groningen. We share routes from places all over the country. With each route, you'll walk or drive past one of our landmarks. You can view the routes via the red button at the bottom of each item. Distances are often adjustable by shortening or lengthening a route.
We start our list with this special walk in Aduard. Through placed pillars you walk past important places from the monastery history of the village. This includes stopping at our monument here. This church is the only remaining building of St. Bernard Abbey; one of the largest monasteries in Europe in the Middle Ages.

In this walk you will pass a top 100 monument! You will find this gate in Zwolle, one of the Hanseatic cities. When Amsterdam and Rotterdam were still small towns, the Hanseatic cities had already developed into powerful trading centers. With this Hanseatic city walk you can discover Zwolle for yourself.
Our monument the Sassenpoort is an important building for the city. It used to serve as a gateway to the city and was part of the defense line. It is also not surprising that this building is the starting point of this walk.
The Zuiderwaterlinie is a chain of historic fortified towns. The towns are characterized by the typical Dutch story of defending with water. This line is the oldest water line in our country. Between the fortified towns you will find all kinds of monuments in the middle of nature, including the Ruïne van Strijen.
It was once an imposing castle, three stories high. But during the Eighty Years' War, the castle was destroyed and never fully restored. Today only one of the castle towers remains standing. With this car route you tour the Ruïne van Strijen and the beautiful natural areas.
During this walk you will take a journey through the turbulent past of the village of Oostvoorne. Through the dunes and nature reserves you walk past all kinds of special places. This includes the castle of Oostvoorne.
You can also extend this walk into a long walk along the Dutch coast. In fact, the route is about 13 kilometers in total. Plenty of places are tipped off, for a cup of coffee or where you can rest (inside).
Finally, we tip a walking tour of IJsselstein. With this route you will discover all historical places of the city. Through the accompanying audio tour you will hear right away about the 700 years of city history.
One of the stops is the Kasteeltoren. Here you can see the only remaining tower of Castle on the IJssel. Did you know that the municipality owes its name to this castle? The castle was regularly the scene of battle between Holland and Utrecht in the thirteenth century and withstood a lot of blows. During the tour you will hear all kinds of stories of this monument.
Walk through the forests of Slangenburg! General Frederik Johan van Baer, who resided at Slangenburg from 1657 to 1713, carried out large-scale renovations to the castle. But he also adapted the area around it. The estate was expanded by approximately 67 hectares. In keeping with the fashion of the time, he had straight lanes and forests laid out in geometric patterns. Seen from above, the lane system around the castle has the shape of a double trapezium.
With the Trapezium Walk of Staatsbosbeheer you walk part of the route under the special monumental avenues and pass the castle.
There are beautiful walking routes in and around the Vesting Naarden. Whether you are interested in culture and history or love nature, there is a route available for everyone.
Around the fortress lies a narrow asphalt route that follows the shape of the fortress star, about 4 kilometers long. From where you always have a beautiful and surprising view of the fortress. You start a visit at the Gele Loods in Naarden.
