Kronenburgertoren maintenance
The Kronenburgertoren is surrounded by construction scaffolding! We are currently having maintenance work done on this thirty-meter high brick powder tower. The monument stands in the Kronenburgerpark in Nijmegen and is an exceptionally well-preserved example of medieval military architecture. The monument consists of two tiers, each with a parapet with battlements. The top is crowned with a wind vane with an eagle.
The masonry of the battlements of the upper weather wall is defective. Several stones have already been removed from the masonry, others are loose and grouting is missing. The work consists of repairing loose or missing masonry on the battlements, repairing poor grouting, repairing natural stone, painting, and repairing the roofing on the walkway. The wind vane will also be re-gilded so that it will soon look out over the park like new again! We will hopefully complete the work this year or early next year!
