Tips for the Christmas vacation

Next week starts the Christmas vacations. No plans yet? No problem! We are already tipping you off to some fun heritage outings in our monuments.

We also have some great tips for those at home. Curl up on the couch during the vacations with one of our book or watch tips.

1. Christmas Music Sing-along in Middelburg

We start on a cheerful note to get you in the Christmas spirit right away. Kick off your vacation season right by singing along to Christmas hits in the East Church the night before.

On December 22, the Oostkerk in Middelburg is hosting a sing-along. Come in your foulest Christmas outfit and enjoy the best top-2000 Christmas music.

2. Listen to the stories of IJsselstein

Walk through the city and discover the most important moments in IJsselstein's history. Follow the free, specially developed audio tour that takes you crisscrossing the city. One of the stops is our Castle Tower. An important place in the founding of the city....

3. Spend the night at Slot Assumburg

Book a night away during the vacations! Celebrate Christmas in a castle. This castle has been here since the fifteenth century. A grand entrance, beautiful halls, the moat, everything is enchanting at this special location.

You can book an overnight stay at Slot Assumburg through the Stayokay website. Still want to see the castle without spending the night? The baroque garden in the park is freely accessible during the day.

4. Light Sculpture Trail

Street theater, light sculptures, music quiz route, performances and more: Nijmegen gives light in the dark during the Nijmegen Winter Weeks. During the vacation season, discover largest impressive sculptures through the route of lights.

One of the sculptures stands in Kronenburg Park, where you'll also find the recently restored Kronenburg Tower.

5. Dig through archaeological remains

At the Vestingmuseum in Naarden, you can now help sort out archaeological finds every second weekend of the month at the ArcheoHotspot Gooise Meren. You'll help sort through material from three locations: "trash" from the Binnengasthuis in Amsterdam, pottery shards from a Naarden home, and Napoleonic musket balls, from 1813-1814.

4. Naarden Fortress in Good Rentmasters

For those who missed it last month, you can watch Good Rentmeesters online. In this series, presenter Reinier van de Berg explores what is involved in the exploitation of heritage assets.
