"Proud to receive this award. A lot of work has gone into preserving this building for the future."

The HKV is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and, as part of this anniversary year, is awarding a prize to a special restoration project in Voorhout. This year, Teylingen was chosen as the winner!

Over a hundred interested people came to the ceremony at the Ruïne van Teylingen. Those present were welcomed by HKV chairman Chris Tetteroo. Alderman Reny Wietsma explained why the ruin was chosen as the lucky winner: "Stichting Monumentenbezit and Stichting beheer kasteel Teylingen have worked together with the municipality of Teylingen to ensure that the ruin has been developed into a particularly accessible historical monument."

The ruin now consists of an impressive ring castle 37 meters in diameter in which the remains of the residential tower and a gatehouse stand. The whole is surrounded by a wide moat. Following the transfer of the ruin to Monumentenbezit in 2016, preparation for the restoration of the residential tower began immediately. Due to the ravages of time, the residential tower had extensive damage to the pointing and bricks. Restoration was badly needed to preserve the historical material of the old castle ruins. It succeeded, courtesy of construction company Bouwer & de Cock. Read more about the restoration on our website!
