Monuments color fan
Null
Monumentenbezit presents, together with Boonstoppel and Verfmolen 'De Kat', a colour fan especially for monuments: the Dutch City and Regional Fan. Colours play an important role in how you experience the environment and the story of a region. With this fan we map the colour history of the Netherlands. There are a total of 196 colours in it, each with its own special story. All colours originate from heritage buildings from 1400 to the present.
The fan is intended for owners or managers of monuments and experts in the field of monument care, restoration and aesthetics. Think of municipalities, heritage organisations and private owners. It provides a reference for the preservation or restoration of historical colours on monumental buildings. The colours are classified by century and have a short description of the origin, in order to provide more background.
In 2020 we started developing the colour fan. This was printed by Boonstoppel in recent months. The end result consists of three parts: city, region and fort & fortress. Monumentenbezit contributed to the latter part.
Fort & Fortress
In the last part you can read about the research into the colours of fortifications and forts. This part is based on a colour specification from 1872, used by the Dutch Genie for the maintenance of forts and fortresses. The results can also be used for other fortified cities. There are no less than 32 historical colours in it.
The entire Naarden fortress has been painted in the historical colours, following the colour research. Next year, Bastion Oud Molen will also be painted. Buildings that we are going to restore will be painted in the historical colour during the renovation.

About the fan
For the monument fan, careful research was done by our former colleague and architectural historian Lenneke Willemstein and by Pieter Keune, based on 35 years of existing research. The Dutch City and Regional Fan is a valuable tool for anyone interested in the rich colour history of the Netherlands or who is working on the preservation and maintenance of heritage.
Read the brochure here for more information about the fan. If you also want a colour fan for the restoration of your heritage, please contact Boonstoppel.
