Symposium collection ‘A rampart around a castle’

This collection is the result of the symposium 'A rampart around the castle, a phenomenon that has been little researched', which took place on March 29, 2025, at Ammersoyen Castle. During this symposium, researchers from various scientific disciplines approached the phenomenon of the rampart around the castle from different angles. It shows how rich and multifaceted the meaning of these often seemingly simple earthen structures is. Jeroen van der Werf of Monumentenbezit contributed to the symposium and this collection with his paper 'Hidden behind the sand: earthen ramparts as defensive structures' and collaborated with Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen and De Nederlandse Kastelenstudiegroep on the creation of this symposium collection.
