Story at Slangenburg Castle

August 19, 2025

Want to discover all the beauty of Slangenburg Castle at your own pace? Since 2025, you can do just that with Verhaal op Zaal! For the castle, this is a new way for visitors to explore this historic site: independently, with the help of information leaflets and personal guides in each room. The project offers an alternative to traditional guided tours and gives the public more flexibility when visiting.

For decades, Slangenburg Castle was not accessible to the general public because it was used as a guest house. Visits were only possible by invitation. In short, there was a clear demand for more accessible and visitor-friendly forms of visiting. Monumentenbezit wanted to lower the threshold and offer a sustainable, safe, and attractive experience for all visitors, so it started offering guided tours. Initial experiences with these regular tours showed that not all tours were filled and that visitors preferred to have the option of exploring independently and wanted more flexibility for spontaneous visits.

Verhaal op Zaal makes it more accessible, approachable, and appealing for a wide audience, including families and spontaneous visitors, to become acquainted with the history and atmosphere of the house, its remarkable paintings, valuable furniture, and the legacy of its last residents, the Passmann family.

Guided tours can be booked on weekends throughout the year. Visits with Verhaal op Zaal (Story in the Room) are available during the high season from April 1.
