"We look back on a great trip, where we gained a lot of inspiration from each other and agreed on follow-up steps to intensify our cooperation."

Mark van den Bos | Director/director Monuments Property

A good relationship between heritage organizations within the Kingdom is worth its weight in gold! That is why our colleagues Mark, Ger and Anne visited Bonaire and Curaçao last week.

The purpose of the trip was to see where we can help each other move forward, how we can work better together and how we can better protect our heritage.

Visiting Cocari II

The trip started in Bonaire. Here we did a tour of Bonaire's most distinctive heritage sites. We looked at each project from an architectural perspective and in the context of accessibility. We discussed our ideas in several sessions with Jan de vries of the Cocari II foundation. During our visit we also discussed other issues involved in managing monuments, such as Code of Governance, education and opening up.

Mark has also joined the foundation as a member of the Advisory Board. "From Monumentenbezit, we see it as our social responsibility to share the expertise we have in-house with others."

Moving on to Monuments Curacao

After a meaningful stay on Bonaire, it was time to board the plane to Curaçao. Here we were warmly welcomed and shown around by Monumentenzorg Curaçao. They showed us the projects they are working on over there. Special to see that there are many similarities between our projects and those there on the island.

Finally, there was discussion about setting up a trainee program together. This is something we are going to develop further in the coming period.

Entering the future with enthusiasm

We are excited about the possibilities for increased cooperation. To be continued!
