On April 19, Easter Saturday, the Ruins of Brederode will open their gates again for the season, with a new exhibition about the power and influence of the Van Brederode family. The family and the castle once played a key role in the history of Holland.

Discover the ruins

The Ruins of Brederode date back to the 13th century and have been destroyed and restored several times. In the 19th century, the ruins were restored by the famous architect Pierre Cuypers. Over the years, they have been the inspiration for various artists, including Piet Mondriaan.

The exhibition sheds new light on the history of the Van Brederode family. The last lady of the castle, Yolande van Lalaing, and her daughters are presented in a special way in her living quarters. Visitors can explore the ruins and form an image of the grandeur of the castle in the late Middle Ages.

Practical information

The Ruins of Brederode are open from Saturday 19 April, every Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00. The ruins are easily accessible by car, bicycle and public transport. Visitors can park for free in the adjacent parking lot.

Current information about opening hours and tickets can be found at ruinevanbrederode.nl . Anyone interested in volunteering and welcoming visitors can email brederode@monumentenbezit.nl for more information.
