Slangenburg castle opens to public
Null
Big news! On May 17, the castle will be officially opened. Starting that weekend, Slangenburg will be open to the public every Saturday and Sunday. Walk with a guide through the centuries-old corridors and see rooms filled with paintings and impressive furniture.
During a guided tour you will learn more about former residents, life in the castle and its building history. You can reserve a ticket now.
Restoration
In order to open up the building, research was done to determine the restoration needs. This turned out to be great. We are therefore working on a restoration and maintenance plan for the castle. Among other things, we are going to see what is needed to restore the unique paintings and the magnificent collection. We are also investigating how the castle can be furnished as much as possible according to the time of its last owners: the Passmann family. Furniture that was originally in the castle and is now in the collection of the National Cultural Heritage Agency will be returned to the castle if possible.
Visit the castle
The above will take time. Nevertheless, we would like to open the doors soon for visitors to enjoy this special monument. Therefore, the castle will open in phases with the rooms ready to share with the public. Over time, more rooms will be included in the tours. The entrance fee will also be adjusted accordingly.
During the Whitsun weekend, with Castle Day, the castle will be officially opened to the public. From then on, visitors are welcome to take a guided tour of the imposing building every weekend.
Initially, three tours per day will be offered on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays. More boarding times or days may be added later. Check the website to see current time slots.
Coffee and snacks
Until the castle opens to the public, you are already welcome at the café on the castle grounds. In one of the old carriage houses you can go for a cup of coffee or a tasty snack. Starting in March 2024, the hospitality industry opened its doors here on weekends. They have recently expanded their hours and are now open on Fridays as well.
The carriage houses can also be booked for parties and celebrations. In addition, you can come and stay overnight in one of the carriage houses on the grounds.
Working at Slangenburg
For the opening of the castle and carriage houses, we are still looking for enthusiastic volunteers to give tours and for staff for catering. Interested? Check the Slangenburg website for open vacancies.
