The Christmas holidays start next week, and that means time to enjoy winter getaways! No plans yet? No worries! Here are five atmospheric tips to spend the holidays in very special places.
Whether you like culture, good food, or simply beautiful surroundings, there is something for everyone! We have put together a few fun outings for you at a number of our monuments.
At Kasteel Slangenburg you can stay in the old orangery or the former carriage stable. As soon as you cross the bridge and the first moat onto the grounds, the impressive castle looms before you. On either side you will find the castle houses, which can be booked for an overnight stay. During your stay you can also take a tour of the castle. A perfect way to be fully immersed in the magic of a winter castle.
This weekend, the Grote Kerk in Veere will be the setting for the annual Christmas market. On 14 and 15 December, this historic church will be transformed into an atmospheric Christmas setting that will get you in the festive mood. Stroll past stalls with unique products from local entrepreneurs: handmade Christmas decorations, fair trade candles, second-hand vinyl records, and fair trade clothing. The selection is perfect for anyone looking for an original Christmas gift. And the best part? Admission is free!
The historic fortified city of Naarden is transformed into a magical winter landscape with beautiful lights and decorations every year. On December 14, the annual Christmas market takes place again. In the visitor center De Gele Loods you will find all kinds of delicacies, which are specially for sale here for this market. Do you want to learn more about the rich history of Naarden? Then visit the free exhibition in De Gele Loods, which tells more about the fortified city.
